Team Punique Joins Sambalaran 2023: Fostering Heritage and Innovation
Team Punique had the privilege of participating in this year’s Sambalaran event, organized by the Bulacan State University (BulSU) College of Engineering, on October 20, 2023, at the esteemed Natividad Hall. The event provided a unique platform to share the beauty and significance of “puni” art with a diverse and engaged audience.
During the event, we conducted an introductory session on the fundamentals of puni art—a traditional Filipino art form involving intricate palm leaf weaving. Attendees, including women from the CADHAM parish, PNP and AFP volunteers, as well as select faculty members and students, had the opportunity to learn how to weave classic puni forms such as butil, fish, palaspas, and star. It was truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and creativity in embracing this cultural tradition.
Beyond the demonstration, the event also marked the beginning of an exciting partnership between Punique and the College of Engineering. This collaboration aims to integrate advanced equipment and technology into Punique’s operations, enhancing our efficiency, competitiveness, and capacity to meet the growing demand for puni art. More importantly, this development will allow us to empower more women in the Malolos community by providing them with sustainable opportunities through this craft.
We are deeply grateful for this partnership with BulSU’s College of Engineering and are eager to work together on future initiatives. Together, we hope to preserve our rich heritage while embracing innovation for the benefit of our community and beyond. Here’s to more meaningful collaborations and milestones ahead!
