PUNIHAN at KABUHAYAN para sa KABABAIHAN
(A Livelihood Program for the Women of Malolos)
On August 10, 2022, Team PUNIQUE, in partnership with Malolos CSWD Head Lolita Santos and Konsehong Panglungsod para sa Kababaihan (KPK) President Digna Quinto, successfully conducted a puni weaving training for forty (40) women from KPK Malolos. The training session aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to master the art of puni, a traditional Bulacan weaving craft that holds significant cultural value.
To recognize outstanding participants, eleven (11) top weavers were awarded for their exceptional skill and creativity demonstrated during the training. These women serve as an inspiration and a testament to the potential of puni weaving as a sustainable livelihood opportunity for the women of Malolos.
The overarching goal of this initiative is to empower women by providing them with sustainable livelihood options while ensuring the preservation and innovation of puni art. Through this program, we aim to cultivate a new generation of puni weavers and advocates who will carry forward this distinctive Bulacan tradition and promote its cultural significance.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the local government of Malolos, led by Mayor Christian Natividad and Councilor Niño Bautista, for their unwavering support of this advocacy. Their commitment to empowering women and preserving Bulacan's cultural heritage has been instrumental in making this initiative a success.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue this journey with the next leg of our puni training series. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for the women of Malolos and the rich heritage of puni art.
